Teaming with Pfizer in Kenya: New Perimeter provides negotiations training for East African government lawyers

New Perimeter , DLA Piper’s nonprofit affiliate focused on global pro bono, teamed up with lawyers from Pfizer to deliver a five-day, in-person negotiations training in Nairobi, Kenya. This training is part of New Perimeter’s long-running collaboration with the East African Development Bank (EADB) to build the capacity of public sector lawyers who are involved in negotiating contracts related to natural resources on behalf of their governments. This marks the eleventh year New Perimeter has collaborated with EADB to train East African public sector lawyers and judges.

The course on negotiating international transactions was provided to approximately 50 government lawyers from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The interactive program focused on negotiating complex and interrelated agreements typically encountered in transactions between African countries and multi-national corporations. The training included sessions on negotiating international loan agreements and oil and gas contracts, which were topics of specific interest to the participants.

“Our international training team shared their extensive experience and was incredibly impressed by the high level of engagement and dedication of the participating public sector lawyers,” said of counsel and course leader Jay Finkelstein (Washington, DC). “We are also grateful for our collaboration with a highly enthusiastic and talented team of lawyers from Pfizer.”
