What inspired you during the project?

One of the benefits of working at an international law firm is the opportunity to do international pro bono. Since we have the option to do a form of pro bono that many attorneys in the US do not have the opportunity or ability to do, I have always believed attorneys at DLA Piper should make the most of these opportunities. This particular project interested me as I am a supporter of civil rights and rule of law issues, and the project (my third time participating in a New Perimeter project) provided an opportunity to advance both issues.

What was the most fulfilling aspect of the work?

The most fulfilling aspect of the New Perimeter Bahamas project was working with the police prosecutors and seeing how engaged they were with the training. All of them truly wanted to learn and were engaged every day with the trainers and the material. We were able to spend a day watching the police prosecutors in action before the training started, and it was gratifying to watch them learn and improve as the training progressed. You could see that many of the problems that existed were not institutional, but rather could be addressed through knowledge-sharing and training. As we were training almost every prosecutor in the Bahamas, it was apparent that our work would make a real difference.

What one word describes your New Perimeter trip?
