Legal Ethics, Access to Justice and Pro Bono Courses
New Perimeter is partnering with Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia Community Legal Education Initiative (BABSEA CLE), an international nonprofit that supports university-based and community-based clinical legal education programs, law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and the Australian Government Solicitor to develop a curriculum for South East Asian law students on legal ethics, pro bono and access to justice.
The team will develop, test and deliver up to 16 course modules using a clinical legal education framework that encourages participation through practical scenarios, case studies, active discussions and debate. The modules will be stand-alone sessions that may be mixed and matched to provide tailored approaches for different audiences. They will be tested and delivered at a number of law schools in South East Asia over the coming months. The goal of the curriculum is to help students develop their ability to identify, evaluate and respond to ethical concerns, to explore issues related to access to justice, and to help encourage pro bono among future generations of lawyers.
