Ethiopian Law and Economic Development Conference

The Conference on Ethiopian Law and Economic Development took place on November 13, 2008 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Hosted by the Addis Ababa University Faculty of Law and sponsored by DLA Piper’s New Perimeter program and LexisNexis, the conference attracted 150 attendees, including legal practitioners, academics, Ethiopian government officials, delegates from non-governmental organizations, law students and representatives of the Ethiopian business community.

Conference participants heard from panels of distinguished speakers on topics such as foreign investor protection, dispute resolution in the promotion of economic development and WTO accession. In addition to sparking lively debates on pressing legal issues, the conference provided a welcome forum for members of the Ethiopian legal, business and academic communities to share ideas and make connections.

A New Perimeter team of DLA Piper lawyers worked with Addis Law Faculty members to develop and plan the conference, and ten DLA Piper lawyers from the United States, Europe and the Middle East traveled to Addis Ababa to participate in the event.
