The Diplomat - Will the Security Council Now Act on North Korea?

Jared Genser, New Perimeter Advisory Board member, Managing Director of Perseus Strategies, LLC and Founder of Freedom Now, authored an op-ed article in The Diplomat on the UN Security Council’s historic vote to place the human rights situation in North Korea on its permanent agenda. In 2006, when Jared was a lawyer at DLA Piper, he led a team to create a report, Failure to Protect, that applied the doctrine of “responsibility to protect” to the situation in North Korea. His team concluded that the government had committed crimes against humanity against its own population and had urged the UN Security Council to place North Korea on its permanent agenda and to address this situation with urgency. In 2008, the team issued a sequel to the initial report and received the Freedom Fighter Award from the nonprofit organization, Liberty in North Korea.
