Latin Lawyer - Pro bono in Colombia still in early stages

A report on the status of pro bono legal work in Colombia calls on law firms to further institutionalize pro bono within their firms and highlights the work of the Colombian clearinghouse Fundación ProBono. The report was launched at an event on 14 February at Bogotá’s Universidad de los Andes, which featured university professor Manuel Iturralde, DLA Piper partner Kelly Hardy and Gómez-Pinzón Zuleta Abogados partner Paula Samper, a key pro bono figure in Colombia.

Through New Perimeter, Kristen Abrams and Kelly Hardy recently taught three classes at Bogotá’s Universidad del Rosario on legal social responsibility and the use of pro bono to increase access to justice. New Perimeter has been involved with Fundación ProBono since 2012 and continues to collaborate with Fundación ProBono on efforts to develop a pro bono culture in Colombia.
